Milagros Piñol obtained her Chemistry Degree in the University of Zaragoza where she presented a degree dissertation on Liquid Crystal Polyesters under the supervision of Prof. J.L. Serrano and Dr. J. Barberá. In 1988, she moved to the University of Sheffield (England) to work at the Department of Chemistry where she was awarded her PhD in 1991 with a work on heterocyclic liquid crystals developed under the supervision of Prof. C.M. Marson, Dr. R. Brettle and Prof. D.A.D. Dunmur. Back to Spain, in 1992 she joined the Liquid Crystal and Polymers Group as a post-doc. In 1993, she was appointed as associate professor in the Superior Polytechnic School of Huesca where she won a permanent position in Organic Chemistry in 1998. After having attained her National Habilitation in 2007, she is now lecturer at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Science of University of Zaragoza.
Her academic duties include undergraduate activities at Chemistry and Physics Degrees and postgraduate activities in Materials Science and Nanoscience.
Her current research interests include liquid crystal polymers for electrooptical applications. This topic includes the synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline polymers having different architectures with photoresponsive properties based in azobenzene or cinnamates and luminescent materials with anisotropic emission.
